Congressional Response to the Clean Energy Supercluster
Rep. Udall’s Statement on CSU’s Clean Energy Supercluster
“The Supercluster’s objective is simple – combine university resources to bring new energy technologies to the marketplace as efficiently as possible, cutting red-tape and producing competitive solutions in the renewable energy market. This will help strengthen the New Energy Economy in Colorado and create more green collar jobs. These important jobs will help decrease our reliance on foreign energy sources and improve our national security.
“The path to energy independence leads right through Colorado. We have wind on our eastern plains, sun in the San Luis Valley, geothermal resources beneath our feet, biomass in our fields and forests, as well as the intellectual capacity at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) and in our universities and businesses along the Front Range. The Colorado State University Clean Energy Supercluster gives us another means by which we can harness the great potential of this state.
“Colorado State University has been successful in spurring the development of businesses like AVA Solar, Solix Biofuels, and Envirofit International. The Supercluster model they have developed will continue to push Colorado to the forefront of these emerging industries that will benefit us in many ways, but most importantly by creating more jobs.
“President Penley, thank you for your leadership on this issue, and thank you for the clean energy vision that Colorado State University has set out to achieve.”
Rep. Perlmutter’s Statement on CSU’s Clean Energy Supercluster
“I would like to congratulate Colorado State University on the unveiling of their Clean Energy Supercluster. This is another example of how Colorado is becoming a national and world leader in promoting renewable energy technology. In addition to having abundant sun and wind, Colorado is fortunate to have world-class research facilities and universities. Further evidence of this is the increasing investment in Colorado by major companies in the field of renewable energy. The investment is in no small part due to the work of institutions such as Colorado State University and the caliber of students they attract and graduate.
“I commend Colorado State University for having the vision and foresight to accelerate renewable energy technology research to the marketplace. The Clean Energy Supercluster will help bring together university research and the business community to benefit Colorado and the nation. Promoting renewable energy and energy efficiency is good for national security, good for the climate and good for jobs.”
